Beware the fastener gender
Be sure to check the fastener gender (not just the connector gender) on the jack that you intend to connect to. The jack that I was trying to plug this into had female fasteners as does this adapter - this will typically be true if you are trying to hook into a device and not just a cord. It would have been fine if the fasteners were removable on the adapter, but they are not.
plugged it in and it just worked
I work almost exclusively with Linux and suddenly needed to to some windows driver development. I run Linux on my development workstation and run windows under a virtual machine. The computer doesn't have a serial port and I needed one to run windbg to do kernel debugging on the windows virtual machine.
I saw another review of this device that indicated it worked with Linux, so I decided to try it.
I plugged it in and the device showed up without any configuration hassles. I configured VMWare workstation to assign the serial port to the windows VM, booted the VM in debug mode and used my company laptop (running windows native) as the debugger machine with a null modem cable connecting the two. And everything worked the first time!
USB to serial adapter

Works flawlessly under Kubuntu Linux
I purchased the adapter to connect my older GPS receiver with my Linux desktop. When I connected the adapter to my desktop, Linux immediately recognized it and assigned it a serial port device number. It also works well in Vista after installing the included driver. No fuss, no trouble.
Does NOT work with Vista
This product did not come with the device drivers to enable my Garmin to connect with a PC Vista computer. I am unsure whether this is due to the major scratches on the disc that came with it (I tried it on an XP computer as well) or what. I tried to find something online but everything relevant is in Chinese. A COMPLETE waste of money. Be careful...this company makes it sound like it will work with basically any device, but that was NOT my experience.

Major TV interference found at 50 Hz
The adapter charged my laptop fine but here is my concern. It is rated at 100 / 240 V, 50 / 60 Hz and since I travel internationally I thought that it would be appropriate. However when operated on a 50 Hz electrical grid, it gets extremely warm and caused significant interference on all television sets in the house even after it was removed to a remote outlet. On the other hand, it worked fine on the US 60 Hz grid without causing interference.
Good and Cheap, Not Fast
The product worked perfectly with my HP laptop. It was cheap too. The only problem I had was that I asked for 2 day shipping and it took the vendor about 3 days to ship the power supply.
